A Voice For A Century:

Marking the Anniversary of Women's Suffrage

The year 2020 is the 100th anniversary of the signing of the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing and protecting women's right to vote. The afternoon’s guest speaker, Dr. Lee Ann Caldwell, Professor of History and Director of the Center for the Study of Georgia History, Augusta University, will remark on the circumstances leading to this historic milestone and bring to light the women of Augusta who championed the right to vote in their community for generations of women to come.

Guest Speaker:

Dr. Lee Ann Caldwell researches and publishes on Georgia history, Augusta area history, and Southern women’s history. In 2011, Clairmont Press published her textbook Georgia: Its Heritage and Its Promise; an updated and revised edition was published in 2018. In that year, Lee Ann and colleague Jim Garvey co-authored the book Augusta. She has served on civic and professional boards, including two terms as president of the Georgia Association of Historians. Dr. Caldwell has won several awards including the Governor’s Award in the Humanities.
