All About the Mission - May 24

One of the reasons for the success of Ft. Gordon in the region is the engagement of Ft. Gordon’s leadership within the community.  The Chamber has been honored to have COL Shaw Pick attend every board meeting of the Chamber’s Board of Directors over the last two years and at Tuesday’s board meeting, we were privileged to present a small token of our appreciation as COL Pick retires as Garrison Commander at Ft. Gordon.

Over the last two years, COL Pick has kept the Chamber apprised of all things happening at Ft. Gordon so that the business community can continue to understand the changing landscape, success and challenges of the installation.  It has also provided an important opportunity for dialog on the needs of the installation from the Chamber whether that is advocating for a new interchange at I20 to improve commute time or the importance of developing a home-grown cyber workforce.

The Chamber was also honored recently to have BG Paul Stanton, Commander of Ft. Gordon and the Cyber Center of Excellence, as part of the welcoming delegation for this year’s Red Carpet Tour during Masters.  In speaking to the group of more than 80 people, General Stanton’s comments on how the community has supported the growth of Ft. Gordon was compelling in making the case that the Augusta Region is the place to bring their business.

While Ft. Gordon’s leadership transitions over the years, it is definitely in the DNA and playbook that community engagement at all levels of command is a key to success for Ft. Gordon and a priority for whoever serves in those roles.  Thank you to all of the commanders at Ft. Gordon who have and will continue to be visible in the community and continue to keep our region strong.
